The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. We never support or oppose any political party or candidate. The League of Women Voters has two separate and distinct roles.
What is Unigov? How does it work? How can you participate knowledgeably in local government?
First published in 1980, the Unigov Handbook: A Citizen’s Guide to Local Government is designed to inform the community about Indianapolis-Marion County’s unique form of local government. It was compiled, researched, and edited by League of Women Voter of Indianapolis members with assistance from various community members and government workers.
It is intended to provide accurate, non-partisan information. The LWV of Indianapolis’s latest version (2021) may be downloaded as a pdf. We are also working with The Polis Center at IUPUI to include the Unigov Handbook in their Digital Encyclopedia of Indianapolis. A link to the (searchable) encyclopedia will be included soon!
