Lunch with LWV
Join us for a conversation with Shonna Majors:
Shonna Majors is an Indianapolis native-grew up on the far eastside of town. She graduated from Pike High School and is an Indiana State University Alumni with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology.
Shonna began her career in corrections with the Indiana Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer to gain further insight into why people do what they do. She worked with troubled youth in the beginning of her career because she loves young people and she could relate to them due to the fact that she had a troubled childhood herself. In 1991, Shonna was herself a victim of gun violence. Shonna used her trauma from that event to fuel her passion to work with troubled youth and to this day, it still fuels her passion.
In 2009, because of the work she was doing in Indianapolis, Shonna attracted the attention of the US Department of Labor – Employment and Training Administration in Philadelphia and moved there to serve her country by providing oversight to various workforce development programs to six states.
Upon returning to Indianapolis in 2013, she worked in offender reentry and most recently Marion County Jail II.
Shonna now serves as the Director of Violence Reduction for the City of Indianapolis.
Please plan to arrive 10 to 15 mins before the program starts to purchase your lunch.
